Lonely Work

by Ruth M. Brown

I saw you, again, walking the aisles and hallways of this shop,

Always near, yet so darn far away.

Does it really make sense to say that you are ever within my sight?

No, I guess not, but you are eternally within my mental reach.

Separated from you physically, my mind clings to you for strength,

Safety and consolation.

Sorry, Honey, I don't mean to make you work second shift with me,

But I need your presence.
