Birthday Cards

by Ruth Marie Brown

Birthday Cards are special things,
Each different, yet the same,
You simply address one,
And then, you sign your name.

I've known you for so long, now,
A card just would not do.
So, I've written you this little ode -
A special wish for you!

Each year, as we grow older,
Time seems to rush on past.
And every day seems shorter
Than each yesterday, alas.

So, live each day to the fullest,
Do your best in all your work.
Enjoy each minute of pleasure,
Discard each day of hurt.

Remember, friends are hard to find,
And should we meet again -
You still owe me a dinner,
You haven't got my pen!!
