Why I Weep???

by Dollie Brown

And if, tonight, upon my face,
You should detect a tear,
Tis not of now that I do weep --
But things of yesteryear.

Of days once known, when home and hearth
Were made of firmer clay,
Of times when love was rampant - aye,
and younger, and more gay.

Of days of toil and sweat and love,
And making of a life.
Of children's voices and their play,
Of times of loving wife.

Bear not false witness, not to take
That which does not belong.
To work with hands and heart
And sing a hallelujah song.

So, now I say, to all who list,
With heart or soul or minds,
My tears are not for me, but for --
Blest Be -- The tie that binds.
