The "Pipers Been Paid"

by Dollie Brown

Oh, I've lived a lifetime in my 50 years,
I've known life, death and I've known joy and tears.
I've worked for a living, but sometimes I've played,
I've sung and I've danced, and the "Pipers Been Paid".

I loved and I lost, and the tears fell like rain.
I counted the cost, life goes on just the same.
I cried and I died and no laughter I made,
I danced to his tune and the "Pipers Been Paid".

The price can be high and the time can be short,
The life that we live, may be only a start.
But time might go on and the judgement delayed,
Always be certain, the "Pipers Been Paid".

In life and in death, and all ways in between,
I've carried the burdens, I've buried my dreams,
I've paid the last price and I'll say to my grave,
With my last dying whisper - - the "Pipers Been Paid".
